Pets

 

Live animals (pets – dogs & cats only) weighing up to 8 kilograms (including container) will be accepted for carriage in the cabin with an accompanying passenger, on condition that they are carried in a cage – soft or hard – no larger than 40 x 40 by 21 centimeters and can be stored under the passenger's seat. Reservations center must be notified in advance.

  • All pets authorized for carriage must be provided with a Health/Vaccination Certificate and Entry Permits required by the relevant authorities at transit and/or end destination stations.
  • The airline will not be responsible in the event that pets are not permitted passage or entry into any country.
  • Animals showing clear signs of illness may not be approved for flight.
  • The Captain of the flight is authorized to have the animal removed from the plane or transferred to the cargo hold, if the animal is clearly disturbing or has disturbed passengers.
  • Pets will not be accepted for carriage in the passenger cabin accompanied by a passenger on flights to London, Johannesburg, Hong Kong and Australia. On these flights, pets will be sent in the hold of the aircraft as cargo and bills of lading must be issued for them (for clarification, call tel. 03-9176679.) These pets must be housed in nose- and paw-proof crates (in a secured crate) as cargo, with bills of lading. In the case of a guide dog accompanying a passenger to these countries see the section "Conditions and Handling" below.
  • Pets may not sit on the passenger's lap during takeoff and landing.
  • Pets weighing over 8 kilograms (including container) will be accepted for carriage in the hold of the aircraft only.
  • The animals must remain in the cage throughout the course of the flight.
  • No pets may be carried on flights from Luton (London) to Israel or from Israel to Luton (London).
 
Flying Pets - Reservation Procedure
·         All requests to carry animals accompanied by passengers must be submitted to our Reservation center indicating the pet's weight including its container and the container's dimensions.
·         Central Reservations will confirm acceptance to the relevant travel agency.
 
Conditions and Handling
 
  • The pet must be carried in a strong, closed container, purchased by its owners and approved by our representative.
  • The animal must not give off offensive odors. The container must be padded with a soft material that absorbs dampness and must be constructed in a way that prevents leakage. (Its dimensions may not exceed 40X40X21 cm, to be approved for transport in the passenger cabin.)
  • “Seeing-eye/hearing guide dogs” accompanying blind/deaf passengers are to be carried free of charge, without container, provided the dog is leashed.
  • For acceptance to UK the dog will not be permitted to travel in the passenger cabin under any circumstances. The dog must be manifested with bill of lading as for any other imported product.
  • For acceptance to Johannesburg, these dogs must go through the Customs booth in the passengers' hall.
  • Bangkok requires that a copy of the veterinary permits be attached to the animal's cage.
  • France strictly forbids the entry of pet food into the country
 
Cost of Transporting Pets
  • The cost of transporting pets is based on the weight of the pet + the carry-case + pet food.
  • Rates applicable for pets accompanied by the owner.
  • Payment can be made at the EL AL cashier at the airport, or at Early Check-In.
  • Payment for transporting animals is separate; it is not calculated as part of the passenger's regular baggage weight.
  • If there is a continuation flight with another carrier, passengers should arrange payment directly with the foreign carrier.
  • The costs are not applicable on code share flights operated by foreign carriers.
  • A passenger with an open ticket pays the charge for a round trip, even if the return date is not known.

Documentation
·         All pets authorized for carriage must be provided with a health/vaccination Certificate and Entry Permits required by the relevant authorities at transit and/or destination stations.
·         Carriage of animals to Israel: Dogs, cats and birds (more than two of each type) and other animals, arriving with or without their owners, require a Veterinary Import permit issued by the Director of Veterinary Services. A written request for such permits should be submitted, with a valid check (rates are subject to change) no later than 10 days before the planned departure of the animal. The request should include the animal species, gender, breed, age, information about its arrival in Israel, country of origin and other details.
·         Dogs, cats and birds (up to two of each type), arriving with or without their owners, after being in their possession abroad for at least 90 days, are exempt from an Israel Veterinary Import Permit, but they must bear an inoculation certificate and a Veterinary Health Certificate issued by a Government Veterinary Officer in the country of origin, stating that the animals are healthy and free of infection and contagious disease. In addition, the Certificate must state that the dogs and cats were vaccinated against rabies, not more than one year and not less than one month prior to their arrival in Israel. Dogs and cats under vaccination age (three months) will not be admitted.
·         ·When flying animals from Israel, it is the owner's responsibility to clarify which documents and relevant certificates are required at the transit and end destinations.
